Shonen Jump, officially stylized SHONEN JUMP and abbreviated as SJ, is a monthly manga anthology published in North America by Viz Media. The magazine debuted in January 2003 as an English language version of the popular Japanese anthology Weekly Shōnen Jump, published by Viz's partner Shueisha.
History
In 2002, Shueisha announced a partnership with Viz Communications, LLC (now Viz Media), a purveyor of anime and manga in the United States, to distribute a monthly version of Weekly Shōnen Jump in North America under the name Shonen Jump. Similar to its Japanese counterpart, issues of Shonen Jump are printed to be read from right to left. The first issue, released January 2003, sold almost 300,000 copies, making it the top-selling manga work of any kind in the United States at the time.
