The subject matter of the song was inspired by an occurrence when Amy Lee met a friend of a friend, a total stranger that did not know her, who could somehow could "see inside her" — and when he spoke, his words "woke her up inside". This encounter with a true "Word of Knowledge" inspired the hit that would essentially launch the band's career.
