Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun. It is also known as the "Red Planet", for its orange-red appearance. Mars is a desert-like rocky planet with a tenuous atmosphere that is primarily carbon dioxide (CO2).
Over one hundred years ago, efforts were started to terraform the planet to be habitable by humans. While periodically abandoned due to various wars, Mars does now boast an atmosphere that is breathable by humans, though it is still recommended that people wear breathing filters while outdoors.
Mars is home to a number of human settlements, most relatively small enclosed towns, with only two larger cities on the whole planet. Farm bubbles have also been long established on Mars, being enclosed areas devoted to farm land, the long term goal being that eventually as the planet is made more habitable, the farms will have the plant life to quickly fill the Martian landscape.
